GENERAL FAQs
A National Police Check (NPC), also known as a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), is an official check of an individual’s criminal history across all Australian states and territories.
It is coordinated by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and is commonly required by employers, volunteer organisations, licensing bodies and government agencies.
✔ Police Check AU is an ACIC accredited provider — our certificates are government approved and accepted across all of Australia.
Once you have submitted all required information and ID documents, most checks (70%) are completed within 1 business day, often within a matter of hours.
However, around 30% of checks are selected for further review by the National Police Checking System, which may delay processing anywhere from 3 to 15 business days.
⚠ It is not possible to predict if your check will be selected for further review. We recommend placing your order at least 10 days before you need your results.
Our online application process is quick and straightforward. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes.
- Step 1 — Enter your name, contact details and the purpose of your police check.
- Step 2 — Pay securely online. We accept Visa, Mastercard and AMEX.
- Step 3 — Provide your gender, date of birth and residential addresses for the last 5 years.
- Step 4 — Upload your required ID documents and a selfie holding your photo ID. Submit your application.
- Step 5 — Done! Your results will be delivered to your email, usually within 1 business day.
After receiving your application, our team will verify the information and documents you provided for accuracy and consistency.
Once your identity is confirmed and consent obtained, we submit your police check request to the National Police Checking Service. A national database of Persons of Interest (POI) is then searched.
The relevant police agency determines whether your details match any existing records and decides what information can be released. Your results are then sent directly to your email as a branded certificate with verification details.
Your certificate will state either:
A) No Disclosable Court Outcomes (NDCO) — no criminal history information is held, or none that can be released.
B) Disclosable Court Outcomes (DCO) — criminal history information that can be released is held. This may include:
- Charges and court appearances
- Pending matters awaiting court hearing
- Court convictions and sentences
- Good behaviour bonds or other court orders
- Traffic offences
- Findings of guilt with no conviction
The information released is determined by police agencies based on Spent Conviction Legislation and the purpose of your check.
Yes. If you have any concerns about your results, please contact us immediately. We will liaise with ACIC on your behalf or assist you in dealing with the relevant police agency to resolve the matter.

As an ACIC accredited provider, we are legally required to verify your identity before submitting a police check request to the National Police Checking Service.
✔ This is a strict government requirement that applies to all accredited providers, regardless of which one you choose.
When applying in person, your identity is verified face-to-face. When applying online, we ask you to submit a selfie holding your photo ID so we can confirm you are who your documents say you are.
We cross-check the selfie against your ID photo using automated verification tools to ensure the face matches and the ID has not been altered.
✔ This protects you from fraud and ensures no one else can apply for a police check using your details.

- The document is not an accepted form of ID
- The document has expired or been cancelled
- The document could not be verified with the government
✔ If we cannot accept a document, we will contact you immediately to discuss suitable alternatives so we can proceed with your application as soon as possible.
